We still remember

We still remember.

I remember.

I remember turning to my left,
And there you were, with the biggest smile
We would joke about what babu says
And how our younger cousins are different from us.

I remember your curiosity and know-it-all moments
I remember your struggles.
I remember the painful moments of feeling lost and alone.
I remember how you fought, persevered, and triumphed.

I remember the family gatherings that I looked forward to seeing you.
I remember how often I’d remind you to carry a camera for the family photos.
I remember when it was the mighty 18 and now it is the mighty 17.
I remember.

He remembers calling you
Any time of the day, and you’d show up
He remembers you cracking jokes and laughing with him.
He remembers the stories he told you about
And the things he showed you.
He remembers.

She remembers how you’d call her to say hi
She remembers how you’d help her at home
She remembers how you’d talk to your siblings
And tell them that life is no joke and they have to work hard.
She remembers how you’d spend time to teach youngsters in your community
She remembers.

We remember that bright smile that reminded us how handsome you were.
We remember how helpful you were to everyone.
You never held yourself. You helped all.
We still remember.

Even though we grieve, we still trust God.
We remember you and we hope to see you on the other side.
