A Note To Another Firstborn

To my firstborn,
You are the gateway to my blessings,
The testament of God’s faithfulness to me.

The first fruit of my womb,
You are a blessing.
Upon your shoulders lies the weight of your siblings,
So I pray that you will withstand the storms of life.

I still don’t fully understand why we are the ones who must carry this,
But perhaps God built us differently.
I pray you won’t have to live the life of a guinea pig;
Even though you are first, I will do my best to prepare the way.

You will hear of standing on the shoulders of giants
But honey, you might be the shoulders. I know I am.
So perhaps you won’t have that luxury, though I cannot say for sure.

You are God’s masterpiece,
A thought in His mind and the apple of His eye.
I pray that you will live to please Him alone.

Your battles will be many, and again,
I pray that you stand.
The enemy will throw everything he can,
And again, I pray that you withstand.

I hope you never fall,
But when you do, I pray you remember to return to the throne of grace.
May you never choose to identify yourself by the sin that drags you down,
But may you always choose the Savior; find your identity in Him.

Your days may not get better immediately, but in Him, you have hope.
In Him, you have hope for a sunshine that doesn’t hurt the eyes,
For a rain that doesn’t devour or destroy,
And above all, for a love that cannot be explained.
