You build me back
When I am broken.
When the pain is too heavy to hold,
When the very ground beneath me is splitting.
My face is full of sweat;
I tremble at the slightest breath of wind.
My heart is bleeding,
Full of regret and condemnation,
My eyes full of tears
My ears have been deafened
My soul so empty
And it’s all dark
Wounded by the world’s harshest storms
She walks naked in the coldest winters
Confused and lost
Weak in body and spirit
Then the last blow falls.
She cannot move a foot;
She lies down in agony.
The world goes still, and she finally lets go.
In her deepest dreams
A small still voice whispers in her dead ears
“I can build you back.
I can walk with you through the fire.
Your pain is nothing I cannot carry.
Your confusion is a path I have already trampled.
I will choke the emptiness out of you.
I will lift the weight that buries you.
When the earth shakes,
I will be your anchor.
I will keep you grounded.
And if you fall apart again,
I will gather every jagged piece and build you up, once more.”
